Do you really know the difference between palm oil vs olive oil soap? We are informed and aware of the term palm oil, and typically aim to avoid it in our foods.  But did you know that palm oil also finds its way into the health and beauty market? So it is not only about what you ingest into your body, but what you apply to it as well.

Exactly what is palm oil and what has been its environmental effect?  According to Gabriella Tavini in her latest article:

Palm oil is a vegetable oil derived from the palm fruit grown on the African oil palm tree… around 66 million tonnes of palm oil are produced every year. More often than not, palm oil is produced and exported unsustainably. Furthermore, the Palm Oil industry is linked to critical issues facing the quality of life in developing countries. Deforestation, habitat degradation, climate change, animal cruelty and indigenous rights are several of the abuses in the countries where it’s produced. According to the World Wildlife Fund, an area the equivalent size of 300 football fields of rainforest is cleared each hour to make way for palm oil production. This large-scale deforestation is forcing hundreds of species to extinction.

Therefore considering this news, we now have another proponent to reflect on when it comes to purchasing and supporting the palm oil industry.  It can be harmful to eat and surely is not a help to the sustainability of our planet.

Now let’s turn to the good news.  There are many food and beauty related companies becoming inspired to find alternatives to palm oil.  And you guessed it, Olive Oil is the natural winner. It is great for all the reasons palm oil can be detrimental.

Let’s focus on soap and moisturizers, the way we cleanse and hydrate our skin.

Palm oil adds firmness, but is that why people buy soap?  Not at all, people want to feel clean and fresh, period. Unfortunately, industry trends has leaned towards and leaned on using palm oil, and until we had awareness of the harmful effects, customers expected nothing further.  Fast forward and you find companies, like ours, spending lots of money on research and technology to give soap that firmness while riding it of all the elements that are unnatural and have negative long-term effects on the skin.

Therefore the solution, you need great technology to make a bar soap hard without palm oil. The more tech savvy and complex way of creating olive oil bar soaps ensures all the best ingredients of mother nature are harnessed for your benefit.  Specifically when it comes to Olivella bar soaps, they contain no animal fats, no harsh man-made chemicals, no dyes or color additives.

Our moisturizer oil has the same benefits. It uses squalane derived from olives. This is an all-natural product that is ideal for your entire facial and skincare routine. And we took it a step further, beyond just using olive oil we include a blend of essential oils as well as delicate floral scents, which combine beautifully to nourish your skin. These bar soaps leave no residue and absorb completely, thanks to the pure 100% virgin olive oil.

Both Olivella soaps and moisturizer oil involve a process that costs more in time and labor, but it is well worth it.  We work to achieve excellent results not only for our clients, but also for the health of the environment.
