The global organic skincare market is expected to grow at a compound annual rate of 7.8% between 2018 and 2023, according to Mordor Intelligence. The movement towards natural and organic skincare has increased steadily over the years, as people try to reduce or completely eliminate chemicals from their products. The demand for natural products has, in turn, led to an increase in the variety of organic skin care products available on the market. The reasons for this shift towards more natural products are as numerous as they are valid, and it’s unlikely that the momentum towards natural products will slow down anytime soon.

Why You Should Go Natural

There are multiple advantages to using natural products and this is one of the main reasons they have become so popular. One great benefit of going natural is that your skin softens. This is due to the lack of drying agents that are present in chemically manufactured products such as moisturizer and conditioner. While natural products do wonders for your skin on their own, when coupled with a good diet, proper hydration as well as the recommended hours for a good night’s sleep, they can have an almost miraculous effect on your skin. As the natural skin care camp continues to grow, there are a few trends you should look forward to in 2019.

Promoting Sustainable Skincare

Sustainability has been the word of the decade since sustainable development goals were launched. This has been adopted even in the skin care industry. In an effort to reduce plastic pollution, the beauty industry has crossed over to new thoughtful packaging strategies and refined formulations. Developments in this sphere may see the adoption of zero packaging techniques which will result in the release of products in solid form. This movement will be complemented by the rise in waterless beauty in an effort to conserve water. This will result in the increased production of dry products and entirely waterless beauty brand launches.

The Rise of Bakuchiol

The throne previously occupied by retinol has been usurped by Bakuchiol, which is a natural, gentler alternative that helps prevent fine lines and wrinkles. The new ingredient is purely plant-based and works as both an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. It’s therefore ideal for those who suffer from dry, sensitive skin but it works just as well for those with acne and oily skin.

Skincare is changing, and the shift is towards fewer chemicals and more organic and natural products. It’s high time that we all embrace the organic shift, as it will not only be better for our health but also for the good of the environment.
