No. 1 Buy your veggies individually vs prepackaged

There is no benefit to purchasing prepacked veggies. You don’t get to carefully and lovingly select them yourselves and that extra packaging makes its way to another landfill. You will feel good about yourself following this easy sustainable practice. And be sure to avoid those plastic bags at the produce counter, bring your own recycled paper bags to bring your produce home.

Sustainability is beautiful. Trying to do good for the environment, really does feel good! You don’t need to be perfect, it’s a journey but believe me, it’s so worth sticking to! 🙏🏻 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Do you agree? 🌿 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 📷 @zerowasteveganmom ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #SustainableCollective #sustainableliving #zerowasteshopping #packagefree #plasticfreeoceans #sustainability #minimalism #zerowaste #wastefree #zerowastehome #plasticfree #journeytozerowaste #zerowasteuk #zerowasteliving #zerowastetips #goingzerowaste #ecofriendly #reducewaste #zerowastelifestyle #zerowastejourney #zerowastemovement #lowwaste #sustainablelifestyle #plasticfreeliving #reducereuserecycle

No. 2 Update your dental hygiene habits

Try making your own toothpaste, using a bamboo toothbrush and using mouthwash tablets. You reduce consumption, use recyclable materials and cut down on the use of plastic. Win/win/win!

View this post on Instagram

FIND WHAT WORKS FOR YOU I wish I was better at DIY, but for now it makes most sense to buy toothpaste in a jar & alternate an old electric toothbrush with a bamboo. The idea of perfection can put people off making changes to live more sustainably. Your journey won’t look Pinterest worthy in every way & we need to serve that realness (where my Ru Paul fans at??) & do what works best for each of us individually. 😊 . Have you tried making your own toothpaste? How did it go? . You may have seen that today is Earth Overshoot Day. Due to increased consumption & a growing population, we are using up nature’s resources 1.75 times faster than our planet can regenerate them. It sounds overwhelming, but small changes are a great place to start. Together we can #movethedate 💪 . . . #planetorplastic #earthovershootday #ourplanetourhome #reducewaste

No. 3 Buy recycled clothing

The fashion industry produces a lot of waste. Buy beautiful recycled clothing at thrift stores, charity shops, and fundraisers. You can really save a bundle. Your conscious and your budget will thank you!

There's lots of jargon in the world of sustainable fashion, sometimes it's hard to keep track of what it all means! Earlier this year we launched our new recycled collection, something we hope will inspire future ranges as we move away from a linear mindset. We also launched our partnership with @regain_app this week, another step towards #CircularFashion, encouraging customers to donate their clothes so they can be reused or recycled, diverting them from landfill. We'd love to hear what you guys are up to in moving towards a circular mindset? Whether you're in the first steps of living a #ZeroWaste lifestyle, or trying your hand at upcycling your wardrobe we want to hear about it! . . . . #CircularEconomy #Sustainable #SustainableFashion #EcoFriendly #SlowLiving #SlowLife #WeekendWisdom #Recycling #RecycledClothing #EcoClothing #EcoStyle #ShopGreen #GreenLiving #FashRev

No. 4 Make your own cleaning products

Over the counter cleaning products have been found to have so many hazardous ingredients. To ensure your home is clean and un-toxic, make your own. And many of the DIY ideas take mere minutes to create. Many recipes are based in vinegar, what could be more natural?

DIY dishwashing bars – tried my hand at some homemade dishwashing bars! The idea is you pop them in one of those cage thingies & swish it around in the water & it will fluff up ready for washing dishes. I don’t have a cage thing though so I’ll just swish it with my hands. Made from organic Coconut soap flakes, boiling water & a touch of citrus essential oils it smell divine & is the prettiest colour. Teamed them up with my fav plastic free utensils ~ knitted cotton dish cloth, coconut scrubby & my @ecostoreau replaceable head dish brush which I’m estimating at around 7 years old (the handle that is 😂). Super easy to make & I can’t wait for them to set some more so I can get them busy on the dishes! If you want to know more about toxin free cleaning check out the details for my next workshop on how to whip up some natural products (although not this one 😉) ~ link in bio Thanks @underyoursinks for the amazing cleaning starter kit, having so much fun experimenting with it 🙏🏽 #diycleaningproducts #naturalcleaning #dishwashing #diyworkshops #plasticfreejuly #brushes #cottondishcloth #coconutscrub #wanderlightly #noplasticplease #zerowaste #plasticfree #iamzerowastecommunity #packagefree #toxinfree #plasticfreeliving #saynotoplastic #protectwhatyoulove #yayforearth #zerowastehome #zerowastecollective #ecofriendlyliving #LovePlanet #organic #choosetoreuse #wastefreeliving #lesswaste #ecoliving #lowimpactmovement

Nesting /ˈnestiNG/ The urge to clean and organize before a new baby arrives. . I wish I had this kind of energy months ago but here I am mowing the lawn and attempting all the things at #37weekpregnant 🙈 . My favorite go-to for deep cleaning is an infused vinegar solution. I have an orange and lavender vinegar steeping now but this rosemary and lemon one I made earlier this spring is one of my favorites. All this is to say, here’s another way to utilize your citrus peels and herbs this summer. Not only is it a great way to reduce waste but it’s non-toxic and cost-efficient too. Just make sure not to use it on granite and marble surfaces 🚫 . Do you make your own cleaners? No. 5 Buy bar soaps and shampoo bars

Plastic no, bar soaps yes. They last longer and you can use them from head to toe, from shampoo bars to body soaps. Start today by adding them to your daily routine in the bathroom and kitchen.

No. 6 Purify the air

There may be pollutants outdoors but you don’t have to take them inside with you. Fill your home with greenery and plants. It makes it both healthy and beautiful!

Fresh air is not something we get enough of in modern life, especially as most of us seem to be increasingly stuck inside with our great British weather! Indoor air can be stale, and thanks to modern synthetic materials and temperature regulation, it also contains pollutants and is often well below recommended humidity levels. Synthetic furniture, paints and computers, to name but three, silently pump chemical vapours into the air, while your heating system will dry out your air. This can lead to complaints such as allergic attacks, asthma, headaches and tickly coughs. This is where plants in your house can help! The humble plant can make all the difference to the air we breathe indoors. They work hard at cleaning our air of these toxins and releasing humidity back into the atmosphere. In fact, there are many health benefits to being near plants. Studies by NASA prove certain plants help keep the air in your house cleaner and increase oxygen levels.  More general studies over time have shown that plants help us to: Have fewer headaches and coughs and feel less tired Have fewer allergy symptoms Recover faster from the common cold Feel less stressed Be more productive and creative if you work from home But not all plants are the same. Some like more light or heat than others, and some clean the air better so it is important to get the right one.

No. 7 Use ethical, fair trade, organic cotton

From bedsheets to towels and totes, be conscious about what you purchase and use in your home. In this way, you empower communities and individuals and also protect the environment. And you home will reflect your sustainable values.
